Yesterday we recieved a phone from a picker that there is a lot of Morchella esculenta in the forests on the East of Bialystok. He told that there there is a possibility to pick up tens of them.
How precious and tasty mushroom is Morchella know more and more of our customers. We also have in our offer Morchella Esculenta frozen „Forest Treasures”,
but in Poland those mushrooms are very rarely in the forest, and even if you can find them, you can find only few of them not a dozens of kg in one place. Those mushrooms are more common in the forest in Scandinavian countries and North America.
After recieveing this mushrooms we find out that this is not Morchella Esculenta but Gyromytria Esculaneta and Gyromytria Gigas, this mushroom is really simmilar to Morchella, specialy when it is young and small.
Gyromytria is popular in some of the countries of northern europe, but in Poland becouse the Gyromytria Esculenta have toxins ( it is not poisonous but toxic ) and the Morchella Gigas is protecded, so with both species are not possible to be trade in Poland.
Unfortunetly the picker must take the mushroom back, and below photos shows us how looks Gyromytria, that you can see during your own way to forest what is the difference between this and Morchella.
